Curio-Physis
This body of work was born from a long-time fascination with arthropods and other small-scale flora and fauna. Woodland exploration and collecting insects was a huge part of my childhood; so much so that it has continued into my adult life where I now have the tools to “collect” in photographs.
Photography allows me to record and share a perspective of the world that many would never experience or consider; my imagery displays the beauty and intrigue of creatures often met with fear and/or revulsion from a safe distance. Arachnids and most insects are typically not well received by the general public; I hope to combat those ill feelings through the use of engaging imagery accompanied with information on the various specimens depicted. It is my belief that exposure and education will lead to understanding and tolerance. I began working on this project four years ago; focusing my attention on the Greenville, NC Greenway which is a paved nature path that runs along the Tar River. During my time working here exclusively I was able to witness a wide variety of insects, highlighting a thriving ecosystem. |
